One Boy Discovers Quality Street

Our Christmas news is late due to me being struck down by the dreaded flu.....again.

Although I missed Christmas I am told that One Boy had a great time.

Christmas Eve was a great day and was the day that Lucas discovered Quality Street.

I cannot remember a Christmas without opening a tin of Quality Street and still get that same old thrill when the lid comes off, the wonderful aroma comes out and the wrappers rustle. And then, of course, the rush to get the favorite ones before anyone else does.

Well, Lucas was totally thrilled and took his sweet time in choosing his first goodie. This was then followed by another, another and yet..............yup..another..

After a fill of Quality Street Lucas, Mummy, Gangan and Grandad attended the evening Candelight Service at Trinity Lutheran.

A wonderful service full of tradition and fellowship........a great way to welcome another Christmas.

And guess what ? We were not afraid to wish each other "A Merry Christmas."  Forget the happy Holidays nonsense......it's Christmas.....

Hope you all had a memorable Christmas and here's wishing for a Happy and Peaceful New Year.

One Boy is on the Mend

Today one boy has taken a turn for the better...............

After 3 days in bed .............he is asking for food and that wonderful sense of humor is returning.....unfortunately for us.......

He is definately a skinny little runt now but with Christmas round the corner I am sure that will change...

One boy spent the best part of today in bed asleep but is now running back and forth and singing 'Jingle Bells'  and demanding that his Gangan responds to every demand........what a diva..

Has he any respect for the fact that I too was taken poorly? ...of course not.

This evening we sit watching the Vikings play the Bears..........and I really hope that the Vikings don't let me down....Doc and Dani could cry ....................................and non of us need to cope with that.

From Bed to Sofa

Lucas a little better today.....he slept well and has not been sick (sorry to those amongst us who do not do bodily fluids) since yesterday afternoon.

So the big move from bed to a bed on the sofa and lots of Christmas movies with mummy and Gangan (both of whom are sick too)....Poor old grandad has his hands full.

One Boy's mummy made up his sofa bed. Then plonked down in a chair saying "That reminds me of what you used to do for me."

And yes I did simply because that is what my gran used to do for me when I was a sick child.

A family tradition? Looks like it may be...Thankyou Gran...........

Lucas follows in Auntie Sarah's footsteps...impressed? No

One Boy still poorly..............today has been spent in bed sleeping and watching Christmas Dvds.

Lucas has had very few illnesses in his short life and very few visits to the doctors (of course Grandad being a doctor helps). But it doesn't hurt to educate him as to what happens on a visit to the doctors office and to take away the mystery.

This book, Going  to the Doctor, is written for children ages 3 and is a great intro to the world of medicine...

This delightful book shows very young children what happens on a visit to the doctor. Jenny and Jack are treated for a sore throat and a bruised arm, and Joey has an inoculation. The charming illustrations are full of amusing details for adults and children to talk about, and slightly older children can read the simple text alone.

For older children the Going to the Doctor Sticker Book is ideal and fun..

We are now praying for a complete recovery for One Boy so that he can take part in his Sunday School Christmas Program.

Bear with me as I take a small wander down memory lane:

It was Christmas 1990 and my eldest daughter Sarah had been rehearsing and rehearsing her part in the song "Little Donkey". I anticipated this event with great excitement...the children would be walking from the main school building down to the school stables carrying lighted candles (in jars) and singing.

The great day arrived and so did the bug....yes, my little girl was taken poorly and that was the end of that......

aaah memories, memories....................

Illness Hits

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear..........
Last week saw many Little Riders going down with the current lurgy.........
This week saw Dani (One Boy's mummy) being hit with the lurgy.
Today saw One Boy himself going down with the lurgy...........

But bless his little cotton socks...he was so brave and is now sound asleep...

We have to get him back on his feet ready for his Church Christmas Program and of course the visit of Santa

Last Rehearsal Before the Sunday School Christmas Program

Oh the joys........Christmas program rehearsals..

Lucas and his pre-school Sunday School class are to be sheep (they were to be angels but I'm thinking their halos must have slipped along the way.!)

All was going fine until Lucas decided that he had had enough. One run through was plenty for him so he just stopped crossed his arms and looked towards heaven...and I don't think it was for divine inspiration...!

Unfortunately for Lucas the children either side of him were still doing the actions resulting in him getting poked and prodded. Now he was really unhappy and burst in to tears. He cried all the way through the rest of the rehearsal but solidly stood his ground. Let's hope that at the performance next week he doesn't get bored.

Home again...

Well, last night One Boy and His Granny waved Granny Wendy and Grandad Brian a sad farewell.

Before taking them to the airport we stopped for a late lunch/early dinner at the Mongolian Buffet in Fargo. It was here that Lucas broke down completely saying that he didn't want his Granny Wendy and Grandad Brian to leave.

It made me feel quite ashamed to think that I was so wrapped up in my own misery that I had paid little attention the the feelings of a 3 year old. Non the less at the airport I broke down and was a soggy mess.

After spending the night at the Kelly Inn in Fargo we did some last minute shopping before returning home.

Home again and it seems strangely empty.............

But of course One Boy just keeps reminding me that in the summer we are going to Granny Wendy's house

Sad Thursday

Today is the day that One Boy and His Granny say "Goodbye" to Granny Wendy and Grandad Brian.

After a wonderful Thanksgiving they are traveling back to the UK to spend Christmas with Sarah, Mick and Keelynn......

I may not be there in person to read 'The Night Before Christmas' to Kee on Christmas Eve but she will hear me read her special bookthat is tucked away in Granny Wendy's suitcase.

The one thing that is making this farewell easier is the fact that One Boy keeps telling me that in the summer we are gong to Granny Wendy's house.

But before then we have lots of adventures planned. And hopefully within the next few weeks we will start our skiing adventure. Aaron (Dani's special friend) has offered to teach us so all we need is the equipment and that we can hire.

Our adventure will start on the Bunny Hill at Bear's Den Mountain in Fort Ransom, North Dakota.

Monday Morning After Megamind Sunday

Well, Monday morning hit and I certainly did not want to get out of bed and go open our 'Little Riders Daycare' but it had to be done...
Lucas was having non of it and snored on.

The reason for our tiredness was a late Sunday night due to the fact that Lucas, his Granny Wendy (Lucas) and I went out for popcorn and a movie.

Our small town of Lisbon, ND has a cute movie theatre which opens most weekends and this weekend we were treated to 'Megamind'

For those not in the know Megamind is an animated Superhero Comedy Movie produced by Dream Works Animation & Red Hour Productions featuring the voices of Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill and Tina Fey.

Lucas thoroughly enjoyed himself throwing himself into the action vocally and with vigor but nobody minded. As for Granny Wendy and myself? well, we did find some parts to be humorous but I wouldn't care if I didn't ever have to see it again. Sorry.

Anyhow home from daycare and Lucas and I are about to start his pre-school homeschool session. We both enjoy this time together which is handy.

My beautiful daughter Sarah called and we have started making our arrangements for July. It will be so good to see the cousins (Lucas and Keelynn) together again.

One Boy and His Granny Introduce Themselves

Although these musings are titled 'One Boy and His Granny' it will be Granny (or Gangan as my grandchildren call me) who will doing the writing........One Boy is only 3 years old.

One Boy's given name is Lucas a name of which he is very proud as it is the surname of his Great Grandparents who live in England.

Lucas came into my world on August 10 2007 and I was thrilled to be the one who cut the cord. Since that time we have been almost inseparable. He and his mummy are very special people and I love them dearly.

At this point I must add that my Granddaughter Keelynn who was born December 17 2008 and her mummy are too extremely special, but as they live in the UK I don't get to see them as much as Lucas and his mummy but they too will feature as time goes by.

It is because of Lucas that his mummy and I opened a group daycare facility. Well, One Boy needed friends and we needed to be with him everyday......so what else do you do?

Lucas and I love to travel and have made 4 trips to the UK and are planning another one in July. At this point the reason for the trip is a secret but I will say it is exciting!

In fact the two of us are planning many adventures including learning to ski......I can't help feeling that our ski instructor will have a challenge with a 3 year old infant and a 50 year old menopausal granny.

well until next time
